RECOMMENDATION:

Informational report for discussion

BACKGROUND:

Utah’s Public Transit District Act requires all contracts valued at $200,000 or greater be approved by the UTA Board of Trustees.  This informational report on upcoming procurements allows Trustees to be informed and provide input on upcoming procurement projects.   Following the bid solicitation and contract negotiation process, final contracts for these projects will come before the board for approval.

DISCUSSION:

Bi-Level Commuter Rail Vehicles.  This is a procurement to purchase four (4) Center truck frames, and twelve (12) Center truck axles for the Siemens S70 light rail vehicles.  Two of the center truck frames, and the corresponding 8 axles are being purchased to increase the number of parts cores in the rebuild rotation as lead-times to rebuild the axles has increased significantly in the past year.  The other frames and axles are to replace cores that are damaged or worn out and no longer able to be rebuilt.  Budget for this purchase is included in the Fleet Sustainability program budget, and the procurement will be conducted as an IFB, where award will be given to the lowest cost vendor. (Req. 322842)
