Discussion

RECOMMENDATION:

Informational report for discussion

BACKGROUND:

UTA and UDOT are expanding commuter rail service along the Wasatch Front to increase capacity and meet Utah’s growing transit demands.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has oversight over fixed guideway capital development projects, such as FrontRunner 2X, and UDOT and UTA work in coordination to implement these project plans.

DISCUSSION:

The UTA Capital Services Office, along with the UDOT project manager, will present information regarding the progress of the FrontRunner 2X project and what it means for the future of transit in communities in the Transit District.   This project will implement double tracking in 11 strategic locations, add one new station, realign track in one location, and add 10 new train sets along the FrontRunner line. These upgrades will enhance reliability, cut wait times in half, and by 2050, travel times for FrontRunner are expected to outperform 1-15 travel times.
