RECOMMENDATION:                                                                                                                       

Approve the second order under the current 5-year cutaway bus contract with Lewis Bus Group and authorize the Executive Director to execute the contract and associated disbursements in the amount of $4,825,208 for 32 buses.                     

BACKGROUND:                                                                                                                                 

On April 27, 2022, the Board of Trustees approved a five-year contract with Lewis Bus Group to purchase cutaway buses.  The buses are replacement vehicles for the Special Services business unit and cover Paratransit and Flex Route services. A base order was approved and placed when the original contract was executed. UTA is now requesting a second order of cutaway buses.  

DISCUSSION:                                                                                                                                      

This second order under the contract with Lewis Bus Group consists of 10 Flex Route vehicles, and 22 Paratransit vehicles. The pricing presented includes inflationary increases similar in nature to the ones previously approved by the board in recent fixed route bus orders with other vendors. The industry has seen significant increases in the cost of materials necessitating price increases beyond regular PPI escalation. This procurement is part of the 5-year capital plan and is intended to follow the bus replacement schedule which targets a 6-year replacement cycle for Paratransit vehicles. Pricing is $170,200 for a Flex Route bus and $141,964 for a Paratransit bus.
