RECOMMENDATION:                                                                                                                       

Approve and authorize the Executive Director to execute Purchase Order 17550 under State of Utah contract AR3841 with Motorola Solutions, Inc. for police radios in the amount of $375,909.46.                      

BACKGROUND:                                                                                                                                 

In 2024 the Utah Communications Authority upgraded the Statewide Radio Network to the P25 Digital System. This left the Utah Transit Authority Police Department with numerous handheld and car radios outdated and unable to operate on the new system. This purchase will replace all outdated radios that do not work on the new system.

DISCUSSION:                                                                                                                                      

Police radios allow rapid communication between the Transit Communication Center (TCC) and officers working in the field exchanging critical information regarding calls for service and emergency incidents. The upgraded radios will also allow UTA to communicate with any law enforcement agency in the State of Utah.
