RECOMMENDATION:                                                                                                                       

Adopt UTA.05.06 - Training and Development and rescind prior Corporate Policy 4.6.3 - Training and Development. This policy will also combine and supersede Corporate Policy 4.6.1 - New Employee Orientation and Corporate Policy 4.6.2 - New Supervisor Orientation

BACKGROUND:                                                                                                                                 

Corporate Policy 4.6.3 was revised on July 27, 2015 and combined the New Employee Orientation and New Supervisor Orientation Policies. However, key points of those two policies were inadvertently left out. This updated policy will rectify that. The revised Corporate Policy 4.6.3 also referred to several councils that no longer exist at UTA and the updated policy clarifies those parties that will be responsible for supporting training and development.

DISCUSSION:                                                                                                                                      

o                     New Policy aligns with the new numbering system at UTA

o                     Corrects the items inadvertently left out of the policy when it was revised in 2015

o                     Corrects the responsible parties’ section of the policy

o                     Creates a more user-friendly way for employees to find training related policy language by consolidating 3 corporate policies into a single UTA Policy.

ALTERNATIVES:                                                                                                                                    

If UTA.05.06 - Training and Development is not adopted, UTA Corporate Policies 4.6.3 - Training and development, 4.6.1 - New Employee Orientation, and 4.6.2 - New Supervisor Orientation will remain in effect.
