R2022-03-06- Resolution Adopting the Fare Rates and Types of Fare Media of the Agency and Authorizing FrontRunner Pass-Through Stations
end

AGENDA ITEM TYPE:
Resolution

RECOMMENDATION:
Approve and adopt Resolution R2022-03-06

BACKGROUND:
The new FrontRunner Vineyard Station anticipates an opening date in May 2022. Customers will have access to board or disembark the train at this station which is located between the Orem and American Fork FrontRunner Stations.
Fare rates are historically set by the UTA Board of Trustees through the UTA fare policy.

DISCUSSION:
FrontRunner fares are currently based on distance and a sixty-cent ($.60) charge is assessed per station travelled, except for North Temple station. Due to its proximity to adjacent stations, this station is considered a “pass-through” station and no additional charge is passed to the customer. Fare rates are historically set by the UTA Board of Trustees through the UTA fare policy.
Staff recommends positioning the Vineyard Frontrunner station as a pass-through station, where no fare will be assessed to the customer travelling to or through this station due to its proximity to adjacent stations.
Additionally, staff recommends updating the current FrontRunner fare matrix identifying both Vineyard and North Temple stations as pass-through stations with no charge. Both stations are less than 2.5 miles to the nearest adjacent station.

ALTERNATIVES:
Do not approve the Resolution and do not accept the North Temple and Vineyard Frontrunner Stations as pass through stations.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Neutral as compared to 2021 revenue.
