RECOMMENDATION:

Informational report for discussion

BACKGROUND:

Utah’s Public Transit District Act requires all contracts valued at $200,000 or greater be approved by the UTA Board of Trustees.  This informational report on upcoming procurements allows Trustees to be informed and provide input on upcoming procurement projects.   Following the bid solicitation and contract negotiation process, final contracts for these projects will come before the board for approval.

DISCUSSION:

Light Rail Wheel Truing Machine.  This is a procurement to purchase a light rail wheel truing machine to be installed in our Jordan River maintenance facility.  We currently have one wheel-truing machine at our Midvale Light Rail maintenance facility that is due for a major overhaul and will be out of service for 2-3 months.  Having this second machine will allow us to do the overhaul on the current machine and still meet the demands of the fleet.  This new machine at our Jordan River facility will also eliminate the need to remove axles from the S70 fleet and shipping them to our Midvale facility to be trued.  The axles and wheels will remain on the vehicle while the wheel truing is completed.  The selected firm will provide the machine and conduct installation by the end of 2026.  Funding for this purchase is included in the tentative approved 2025 capital budget under FMA685, and this procurement will be conducted as an RFP, where technical criteria will be evaluated and scored in addition to price.  (Req. 14401, Bryan Sawyer)
